RRSS students are not only encouraged to read often but it is compulsory for them to read for 15 minutes every morning before the lesson commences from 7:15am – 7:30am according to their interests. The role of the traditional book of different languages is emphasized but balanced with opportunities to explore e-books, audiobooks and online learning applications.
RRSS library is an innovative and well-resourced space. Being a non-profit Chinese independent school many NGOs and associations have donated various kinds of books and reading materials.
It provides a quiet zone for research, study and reflection as well as an interactive zone for discussion and a collaboration zone for student group and creative project worlds.
The library is fully air-conditioned, which provides a very welcoming environment for students and staff to enjoy for educational and research purposes. It also has an area with partitioned tables for students to do quiet reading, self-study and for their exams.
Ms Shelly, the school librarian, has vast experience in supporting and recommending the students to the wide variety of reading materials and even guides the students to do research for their assignments and class projects. She is also supported by the school library club which has a total member of nearly 50 students. They support the librarian especially on duty during school recess and during lunch break.
The RRSS library provides opportunities for students to develop crucial STEAM skills especially during co-curriculum activity time.
